چکیده

A Hadron Blind Detector (HBD) is proposed as upgrade of the PHENIX detector at RHIC, BNL. The HBD will allow the measurement of low-mass ee pairs from the decay of the light vector mesons ρ, ω, φ and the low-mass continuum in Au-Au collisions at energies up to √ sNN= 200 GeV . From MC simulations and general considerations, the HBD has to identify electrons with very high efficiency (> 90%), double hit recognition better than 90%, moderate pion rejection factor of ∼ 200 and radiation budget of the order of 1% of a radiation length. The first choice under study is a windowless Cherenkov detector, operated with pure CF4, in a special proximity focus configuration with a CsI photocathode and a multistage GEM amplification element.

Construction and Expected Performance of the Hadron Blind Detector for the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC

A new Hadron Blind Detector (HBD) for electron identification in high density hadron environment has been installed in the PHENIX detector at RHIC in the fall of 2006. The HBD will identify low momentum electron-positron pairs to reduce the combinatorial background in the ee mass spectrum, mainly in the lowmass region below 1 GeV/c. The HBD is a windowless proximity-focusing Cherenkov detector ...

3 v 1 4 M ay 1 99 8 1 Spin Physics with the PHENIX Detector System

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has extended its scope to cover spin physics using polarized proton beams. The major goals of the spin physics at RHIC are elucidation of the spin structure of the nucleon and precision tests of the symmetries. Sensitivities of the spin physics measurements with the PHENIX detector system are reviewed. The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is under constructio...

An investigation of using hump in the Cherenkov photon lateral distribution for Gamma-Hadron separation

Simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100GeV- 25TeV has been carried out. For a big ideal Cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density have been studied. Results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real TUNKA- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...

Charge Correlation in Near Side Hadron - Hadron Jets at √ s NN = 200 GeV in PHENIX

In high energy heavy ion collisions at RHIC, the dihadron correlation function is known to be strongly modified by the medium. These modifications are reflected in changes in the pT spectrum, flavor composition, shape and yield of the jet. It has been shown[ 1] that there is a charge-asymmetry within jets that favors oppositely charged particle pairs. By splitting the correlation function by ch...

I. INTRODUCTION HE test stand system for the iFVTX silicon detector of the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment

PHENIX is the largest of the four experiments currently taking data at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), and the iFVTX is a new pixel tracker which will be installed in the forward tracker region of PHENIX. Fermilab has developed a complete test stand system for the examination of FPix2.1 modules, hybrids, and pixel chips that will be installed in the iFVTX. The system is currently in...
